Chicago Studies Undergraduate Research Prize: Apply Now

The College is excited to announce the new Chicago Studies Undergraduate Research Prize for the outstanding BA thesis or independent research project from 2018 that takes the city or region of Chicago as its primary subject of inquiry. 

The Chicago Studies Undergraduate Research Prize recognizes the breadth of high-quality, original research that undergraduates produce each year in BA thesis colloquia and other coursework.  To be accepted for consideration, submissions must be:

  • based upon original research
  • accepted as a component of a degree program, course, or credit-bearing independent study

Students from all academic disciplines in the College are eligible to submit their Chicago-focused research for review by a faculty committee.  The five top-ranked submissions will be featured at the inaugural Chicago Studies BA Colloquium (details below).  The highest-ranked project will receive the Undergraduate Research Prize, a cash award of $500, and automatic acceptance for publication in the 2018 Chicago Studies Annual.

The prize will be announced at the inaugural Chicago Studies BA Colloquium, which will take place on Thursday, May 17, from 12:30 to 2:30 pm in Social Sciences 224.  Co-hosted by the College, the Office of Civic Engagement, and the Mansueto Institute for Urban Innovation, this event will showcase the year’s best Chicago-focused undergraduate research and allow presenters to share their work with an audience outside their program of study.
